The US Forest Service recently spent $350,000 to have the Denver based consulting firm, OZ Architecture, develop a consistent corporate image which could be incorporated into the USFS built environment.

Also in contrast to the past when in-service personnel accomplished most design and construction work, today there are many sources of design. In the future there may be more. All potentially involve external designers, and include:
· partnership projects
· permittee owned and operated facilities
· public-private ventures
· leased facilities

... A common characteristic of the initiatives is an urgency to expend funds and show results in a short amount of time.
Private Investment and Permittee Provided Facilities
-Increase recreation demand, a large deferred maintenance backlog, a
decreased emphasis on tax based appropriations, and changing recreation
user patterns require increased utilization of the private sector to provide
more customer services and facilities. Direct investment in project development
and operation as well as improvements and landlord-type maintenance will
be increasingly utilized.
